“…learning to recognise what in me is actually mine.” This is sooo into my mind lately. I can see myself and my husband cought up on expectations many times… Once Gábor Maté said something like this: people often say “that the child is a slow learner” and trying to force their way - but if you do not listen what the child is trying to say to you, then who is the slow learner? So I try to keep in my mind that children are trying to solve problems continuously.
Ah wow, that quote lands. It really does turn things back towards us, doesn’t it? And what you said about noticing expectations — that feels so familiar. It’s something I keep seeing in layers rather than something that resolves once. I’ve been especially interested in that question of what’s actually ours versus what we’ve absorbed — because they can feel almost identical in the moment. I touched on this a bit more in the video above, if you happen to explore it. Thank you for reading and commenting.
