This is so interesting, thank you for sharing your experiences here. I agree that connection is absolutely vital, and I’ve seen the difference in my own children when they have me fully present, especially on a 1:1.
I’ve been thinking about how I can bring my expertise to my local schools, including mindfulness, visualisation and hypnosis for self-esteem/confidence, anxiety etc. (I’m certified to work with children also). I feel a space for them to be heard, and have that connection and felt experience is so needed.
That sounds like such valuable work. One of my most treasured memories from primary school was a practice my Year 4/5 teacher introduced called “stilling”. We would sit in a circle, close our eyes and listen to a guided visualisation. I loved those sessions and still remember how wonderful they felt, which says something about the impact these experiences can have.
I imagine openness will vary between schools. Mindfulness probably has the most established place in mainstream education, so might be a useful starting point, alongside perhaps exploring the evidence for the different approaches. Good luck!
