This was really interesting to read. I realised that my daughter is also drawn to people and their stories and when she feels connected, she is engaged.

I'm so pleased this gave you some practical value. Is your daughter 7? I feel like I read that. If so, we have some real similarities as my story-lover is also that age :-) It's been a real game changer to realise this is key to her learning. She's been interested in the Stone Age recently, and although she might pick out non-fiction books from the library on the topic, she rarely wants to look at them when we get home. But there's a few story-led ones that have been brilliant for her - Usborne 24 hours in the life of series and Terry Deary (of Horrible Histories) has a great little series of books too.

Yes, she is 7 (8 in November). We recently watched some videos about the Ancient Egyptians. This followed on from a conversation we had about whether 'Mummies' were real or not. One of the videos was about 'Marriage and family' which she really engaged with. It spoke about putting back together pieces of pottery to show a love poem. I had just read your article a few days before and it was really insightful to see the connections she was making to storytelling (and family and marriage, which is another theme I have observed). It has given me ideas of ways to share new experiences with her.

I'm so pleased to hear this :-) It is so fascinating and helpful when we start to notice all the little themes and threads that get them lit up.
